Miele's S 8340 EcoLine cylinder vacuum cleaner achieved a top mark of 2.0 in the most recent consumer products test by Germany's Stiftung Warentest (StiWa).
Miele developed the vacuum cleaner, and now manufactures it, at its facility in Bielefeld, Germany.
Fifteen models with a power output of less than 1600 W were tested and results were published in "Test 2/2014," which ranks the Miele vacuum the test winner. Testers noted the high suction performance of the Miele model, despite that it's motor output is only 1200 W.
Miele said the motor power output makes it highly energy-efficient—and puts it far below the 1600-watt level that will be the maximum permissible wattage in Europe starting in September 2014.
Test results noted that the Miele EcoLine had the best suction performance of units tested. Suction was given the highest weighting in the test.
"The good marks awarded to our contestant for suction performance shows that we meet the new EU guidelines with a tidy margin in every respect," said Matthias Sander, Head of Floor Care with Domestic Appliances International at Miele.
The S 8340 EcoLine is part of the S8 series of cylinder vacuum cleaners, launched in 2012.
