A new 30-kilowatt (kW) liquid cooled standby generator from GE Generator Systems is designed to provide commercial-grade features to residential home users.
The standby generator is designed to ensure home life can carry on as normal during a power outage, no matter how long, according to Amanda Grandy, marketing manager for Briggs & Stratton Standby Power. Briggs & Stratton is the exclusive licensee of GE Generator Systems. “It’s the tailor-made backup power solution for homeowners with more electrical needs than our smaller generators can meet, but who are still seeking a more economical option than our larger 35-kW unit," Grandy said.
The generator is powered by a 16-valve, 1.6-liter, inline-4 Briggs & Stratton engine, specifically engineered for the generator and designed to delivers an automotive-style, dependable engine. The engine runs on natural gas or liquid propane vapor.
The unit’s control panel has a scrolling LED display, designed for easy-to-read information and troubleshooting. A basic wireless monitor comes standard with the unit.
An infohub wireless monitoring system is also available as an option, allowing homeowners check generator’s status on smartphones or other web-enabled devices.
A streamlined footprint is designed to make installation easier and less expensive.
A Symphony II power management system manages the home’s power needs automatically during a power outage, electronically controlling electrical loads and providing a managed whole-house power solution. This system gives homeowners access to all their electrical household appliances instead of just selected appliances. The system can be partnered with a GE dual 200-amp transfer switch to further reduce installation time and cost.
The unit’s enclosure is engineered to be commercial-grade and is made of automotive-grade, corrosion-resistant galvanneal steel. GE said the hinged roof is exclusive to the liquid-cooled generator segment, with gas springs for easy opening. Ventilation is configured to push exhaust up and away from the home and surrounding landscaping. Removable front and back panels are designed to make access easier and maintenance faster.
This generator is rated at 30 kW in accordance with UL (Underwriters Laboratories) 2200 (stationary engine generator assemblies) and CSA (Canadian Standards Association) standard C22.2 No. 100-04 (motors and generators).
