Toshiba said first-half income deteriorated in its Home Appliances segment, as well as in its Digital Products segment. The company said both segments saw significant improvements compared to the previous quarter.

Toshiba Corp.'s Home Appliances business segment reported net sales in the first six months of fiscal year 2013 of 313.8 billion yen (approx. $3.1 billion), up 8% from the first half of fiscal 2012.

Toshiba said the Home Appliances segment recorded an increase in overall sales as its White Goods (major appliances) business recovered from the impact of the 2011 floods in Thailand and reported an increase in sales.

The segment's operating loss worsened, however. Industrial Air-Conditioner business had higher operating incomes on stronger sales. The White Goods business, however, recorded lower income in the first half of the year because of yen depreciation. Toshiba said it saw signs of improvement in the second quarter.
