The Electrical Equipment, Appliances & Components manufacturing industry showed the highest level of expansion out the 18 industries tracked in the September 2013 Manufacturing ISM Report On Business.
Economic activity in United States manufacturing overall grew in September 2013 for the fourth month. The report also indicated that the overall economy grew for the 52nd consecutive month.
"The PMI registered 56.2%, an increase of 0.5 percentage point from August's reading of 55.7%," said Bradley J. Holcomb, CPSM, CPSD, chair of the Institute for Supply Management Manufacturing Business Survey Committee. "September's PMI reading is the highest of the year, leading to an average PMI reading of 55.8% for the third quarter."
He said that comments from manufacturing survey panelists were generally positive in September, with panelists exhibiting optimism with regards to increasing demand and improving manufacturing business conditions.
"Outlook remains strong with housing market and customer orders," a panelist from the Electrical Equipment, Appliances & Components manufacturing industry told ISM.
