U.S. Steel Shipments Down in 2013

U.S. steel mills shipped 7,978,531 net tons In April 2013, up 0.7% from the 7,922,265 net tons shipped in March 2013, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). April 2013 shipments were down 3.2% from 8,245,339 net tons in April 2012.

Shipments year-to-date in 2013 were 31,547,910 net tons, down 6.3% from shipments of 33,663,439 net tons in the first four months of 2012.

Shipment data from April 2013, compared to March 2013, showed that:
* cold rolled sheet shipments were up 10%
* hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip shipments were up 5%
* hot rolled sheet shipments were down 4%
