Beko has issued a recall of specific 7kg condenser tumble dryers purchased in Victoria, Australia. A web site announcement says that just eight of these specific units have been purchased in Victoria and that the company has identified them all. It has posted the recall notice on its home page (http://www.beko.com.au/) as it proceed with contacting the affected customers.

"Due to an issue with a part supplied by another manufacturer there may be a fault with the 7kg condenser dryer model DCU7330X under one very particular set of circumstances," the Beko web site notice said. "We believe that the risk of failure is low but, as a responsible manufacturer, we have decided to initiate a voluntary corrective action program as a precautionary measure."

Beko said the dryers were independently tested before being placed on the market and said the appliance meet all Australian safety standards. The company said it will provide free in-home product replacement for the affected customers.

Details about the Australian recall are on the company's Australian web site at:

Beko is a brand of Turkish appliance maker Arcelik. The brand has been the target of intense criticism in the UK, with several fire-related and carbon monoxide-related deaths in the past three years being blamed on faulty Beko cooking appliances, refrigerators, and condensing dryers. A new wave of UK media coverage in February 2013 criticized Beko's efforts to locate and replace recalled appliances.
