Electrolux has selected GT Nexus to provide a cloud technology platform that will automate its closed loop global freight spend management process.

Delivered as a service over the Internet, the platform will optimize the entire purchase-to-pay life cycle for air and ocean transportation.

Electrolux sells more than 40 million residential and professional appliances in 150 markets every year.

"We needed better technology to support our move from normal annual and spot buying to an ongoing, strategic freight management approach," said Bjorn Vang Jensen, Vice President Purchasing, Global Logistics at Electrolux. "GT Nexus connects us with our transport service providers, and allows everyone to see and act on a common set of shared rate information and related transactions in the cloud. This collaboration will help us maintain strong, strategic partnerships with our providers."

The appliance company has a complex global supply chain with a diverse mix of import and export trade lanes. Reducing transportation cost was one important driver. The new platform gives the company the ability to identify options and evaluate trade-offs between service and cost. It also allows the company to track shipments as they occur and compare them against contracted allocations in an integrated strategic dashboard, which gives the company's freight procurement teams the ability to control and adjust buying strategies in real time.

The entire platform is being delivered to Electrolux as a cloud technology service.
