Sharp Appliances (Thailand) Ltd. (SATL), Sharp Corp.'s production base in Thailand, held a ceremony in March 2013 to commemorate the cumulative production of 10 million refrigerators.
The facility opened in May 1988 with an annual capacity of 30,000 units. It reached the 10-million milestone at the end of February 2013 and currently has an annual capacity of 1.5 million units.
The plant currently sells into about 100 countries and focuses on emerging markets in the ASEAN region. Other export destinations include China, Japan, the Middle East, Oceania, Europe, and the Americas. The plant's current production output ranges from small, direct-cooling, single-door models to very large fan-cooled, four-door models.
To mark the 10-million milestone, SATL announced the release of a new two-door, bottom-freezer refrigerator developed exclusively for ASEAN markets. It will also be the first model equipped with Sharp's unique dual-swing door to be sold in ASEAN countries. Other features tailored for the region include a compartment designed to let users easily take out large vegetables.
Sharp Appliances (Thailand) Ltd. is located in Bangpakong, Chachoengsao, Thailand. It has about 2,300 employees and, in addition to refrigerators, produces air-conditioners, washing machines, microwave ovens, air purifiers, rice cookers, ion generators, and other appliances.
