Neato Robotics Launches XV Signature Series at Housewares Show

Neato Robotics surveyed homeowners for their number one complaint about vacuuming, and found people dislike maneuvering a vacuum around table and chair legs and underneath furniture, along with getting close enough to edges and corners. Other annoying aspects of vacuuming, the survey found: dealing with vacuum cords and carrying around a heavy vacuum.

On the other hand, the survey found, almost half of those surveyed wished there was a way they could vacuum on a daily basis.

These were some of the problems that Neato was seeking to solve with its Neato XV Signature Series of robot vacuums, which was exhibited for the first time at the International Home & Housewares Show 2013, March 2-5, in Chicago.

The new, black models include the Neato XV Signature and Neato XV Signature Pro (pictured). Both have the company's unique square front and low profile design, designed to enable the appliances to vacuum underneath furniture and close to corners and walls for maximum pick-up of debris.

The units can be programmed to clean a house at a specific time, with the owner at-home or not. A Control Center enables users to schedule daily cleanings, spot cleaning, or instant cleaning. Daily vacuuming is designed to therefore be automatic.

Unlike robot vacuums that travel around a room randomly, Neato appliances use laser-guided navigation that automatically maps a room to choose the smartest cleaning path. Smart Sensor technology automatically detects and avoids stairs, and doesn't bump into furniture like some robots. The unit will also return to its base to recharge when needed, then resume vacuuming where it left off.

A new aerodynamic profile on the XV Signature series is designed to pick up 50% more dust. Series features also include:

* high-powered vacuum
* new profile that hugs the floor, designed to provide superior pickup on all floor covering types
* high-performance filters intended to rid homes of allergens by removing particles from the air stream down to 3 microns in size
* Improved navigation is said to extend Neato's lead as the only vacuum able to navigate and clean multiple rooms.
* A large bagless dirt bin

"Our research confirms that people want a cleaner home but don't like doing the tasks and don't want to invest more time in cleaning," said Nancy Nunziati, vice president of marketing of Neato Robotics, Inc. "That's where the value of a robot vacuum comes in--it automatically takes of care of cleaning the floors so people don't have to."

The company also announced the latest version of its software and a new Software Update Tool. The company said it is the only company in this market providing continuous improvements through upgrades available to customers.

Current Neato owners can now upgrade to the new software version at no charge and get access to the latest improvements. One new capability is named Corner Clever. It helps robot vacuums enter and back out of corners more precisely, and continue around the corner to ensure it has cleaned the area thoroughly. Other navigation system improvements optimize how the home is cleaned by the robots.

The new robot vacuums will be available for purchase in early April. The MSRP of the Neato XV Signature Pro is $449. The XV Signature is $399.
