PCB Industry Shipments Down in January Mar 8, 2013

January 2013 North American PCB shipments were down 1.1% from January 2012 and bookings were down 4.0%, according to IPC -- Association Connecting Electronics Industries.

Due to changes in IPC's survey sample month-to-month growth rates are not available for January.

The January 2013 book-to-bill ratio for the North American PCB industry was positive at 1.01.

"The book-to-bill ratio for the North American PCB industry strengthened for the second consecutive month, turning the corner in December after an eight-month downturn," said Sharon Starr, IPC director of market research. "Sales and orders, however, remained sluggish in January."

Book-to-bill ratios are calculated by dividing the value of orders booked over the most recent three months by the value of sales billed in the same period. A ratio 1.00 or more suggests demand is ahead of supply, making for a positive indicator of sales growth in the coming 2-3 months.
