New home sales were up 15.6% over December and were up 28.9% from January 2012.
The U.S. Census Bureau reported that January 2013 new home sales were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 437,000, up from a revised rate of 378,000 in December and up from January 2012's 339,000.
The median sales price of new houses sold in January 2013 was $226,400; the average sales price was $286,300.
The Census Bureau estimated that there were 150,000 houses for sale at the end of January 2013, which is 4.1 months supply.
