Shopper activity will continue improving, although intermittently, in the first half of 2013, according to ShopperTrak.
The firm forecasts that, in the first quarter of 2013, national retail sales will increase 3.2% and retail foot traffic will increase 3.5% compared to the first quarter of 2011.
The firm forecasts that, in the second quarter of 2013, U.S. retail sales will increase 2.9% while foot traffic stays flat, with 0% changes, when compared to the second quarter of 2012.
ShopperTrak forecasts retail sales and foot traffic will continue to steadily increase through Easter, which falls on March 31 in 2013. The early date places the holiday and its shopper activity within the first quarter, and takes those sales and traffic from April and the second quarter.
