Samsung/SodaStream Refrigerator Dispenses Sparkling Water Feb 22, 2013

Samsung Electronics Company will launch a new refrigerator featuring the industry's first automatic sparkling water dispenser. The refrigerator uses technology from SodaStream, maker of personalized carbonation systems.

The system that is integrated into the new Samsung four-door refrigerator is designed to provide cold, filtered sparkling water from the same mechanism on the refrigerator door that produces still water and ice.

Consumers can select from three levels of carbonation for their sparkling water. The dispenser uses a standard SodaStream 60L CO2 cylinder, which is placed in a small, concealed area inside the refrigerator door. It is designed to be easily accessible for changing when empty.

Samsung said consumers can save space in the fridge that was previous allocated to carbonated beverages. The company said that using the sparkling water dispenser, instead of purchasing carbonated beverages, will allow consumers to save money.

"By joining forces with SodaStream, we are able to offer our consumers something never before seen on a refrigerator and bring a new experience to the kitchen," said Kevin Dexter, senior vice president of home appliances sales and marketing, Samsung Electronics America.

The 30.5-cubic-foot refrigerator, Model RF31FMESBSR, will be available in April 2013 in the United States retail market at a suggested price of $3899.
