The Consumer Electronics Show opens today in Las Vegas with Whirlpool brand exhibiting new connected appliances and new concepts for the future.
CES, the world biggest consumer electronics expo, runs through January 11. Whirlpool brand will showcase how elements of functional technology with stylish aesthetics come together in new products and concepts for the future as part of Whirlpool 20/20: A Look Ahead.
Whirlpool brand is launching its 6th Sense Live smart appliances, which will be available at retail in the United States in March of this year. The 6th Sense Live technology allows users to stay connected to their appliances. Features include Smart Assistant, Smart Stats, Smart Nudges, and Smart Alerts, all enabling remote functionality and to provide status updates. The appliances also connect to Smart Grid systems used by certain utility companies to optimize energy use and track how much energy is used.
Whirlpool is also showing its Fireplace concept (pictured). This appliance is intended to serve as a focal point in gatherings. As Whirlpool described it: "Using food and fire as the two key elements, it re-centers people in a new heart of the home."
The Fireplace combines a multifunctional cooking table and an air treatment/mood lighting hood. It's height-adjustable and customizable to adapt to different atmospheres through the diffusion of light and scent. A cooking reservoir emits different frequencies of light to either create a warm atmosphere or cook food to the ideal temperature without burning it. The interaction between table and hood makes it possible to create an ideal cooking setting for each food type. The intelligent surface works with smart accessories to sense temperatures.
The Whirlpool brand is also showing a speaker-equipped concept refrigerator at CES. The CoolVox uses Bluetooth to play music from a smartphone or other device.
FreshConnect is another Whirlpool brand concept being displayed at CES. The concept envisions a centralized cooling system in the home or apartment building, with cooling compartments plugging in to a docking station in each kitchen to provide refrigerated storage. The accessories will allow for the correct temperature and humidity levels for bread and fruit baskets, wine chillers, herbariums, and meat and dairy.
Whirlpool brand is also showing Art Gallery Collection Hoods, designed to enable easier kitchen customization. A range of hood panels with original graphic themes are offered.
"We innovate to bring simplicity to the lives of those using our products," said Tanu Grewal, senior brand manager, Whirlpool brand. "Whether that's appliances that connect to the grid and keep consumers alerted to the appliance's status or energy usage, or concepts that explore future living trends and pioneering evolutions in design, food and sustainability, we're committed to advancing our technology in ways consumers want and need."
