Regulatory Relief Measures Signed into Law Dec 20, 2012

The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) applauded President Obama's signing of H.R. 6582, the American Energy Manufacturing Technical Corrections Act. The House of Representatives and Senate passed the bill in early December, in what AHRI called an exemplary display of bipartisanship.

"We are grateful for the strong support and hard work on this bill by several of our member companies, as well as our legislative staff and the many cosponsors in the House and Senate," said AHRI President and CEO Stephen Yurek. "This is common sense legislation that will go a long way in helping our member companies as they work to rebuild our economy."

The bill contains corrections to commercial refrigeration standards, specifically correcting standards for service-over-the-counter commercial refrigerators that had incorrectly been in place for over a year; codifies standards for small-duct high-velocity systems into U.S. law; and makes important technical corrections to the laws impacting AHRI members. The bill also expedites the creation of a uniform efficiency descriptor and accompanying test procedure for water heaters one year from the date of passage.
