Report: December Spending Plans Down from 2011 Dec 19, 2012

The Consumer Reports Index in December showed sentiment among more affluent Americans dropped in the previous month and, for the first time in the CR Index, the sentiment levels of affluents were in-line with middle-income and lower-income households. CR noted that all income levels were around the 50 level, which means half feel their financial condition is better and half feel it is worse than a year ago.

The Consumer Reports Index is CR's measure of Americans' personal financial health.

The Consumer Reports Index's past 30-day retail measure was up in the early December report to 11.1, from 9.6 in the November report. This reflected the expected holiday increase, but was less than the jump in December 2011 of 13.9.

Expected spending over the upcoming 30 days, measuring planned spending through December, was at 10.1, also less than 2011's 12.7.
