Today is Cyber Monday in the United States, which means millions of Americans are back at the computer after the Thanksgiving holiday but not necessarily back to work. They're doing their online Christmas shopping, on what has become the traditional big electronic shopping day of the holiday season.
A survey from Shop.org, conducted by BIGinsight, showed that 129.2 million Americans planned to shop on Cyber Monday of this year (Nov. 26, 2012), up from the 122.8 million who shopped on Cyber Monday of 2011 and 106.9 million in 2010.
With that in mind, 85% of retailers will have a special promotion for Cyber Monday, according to a survey last week.
Smartphone shoppers are up again, with 20.4 million users planning to shop from their smartphone on Cyber Monday 2012 compared to 17.8 million in 2011 and just 3.6 million in 2009.
113.7 million shoppers, or 88% of Cyber Monday 2012 shoppers, say they'll shop from their home PC and 16 million say they'll shop from their work PC. A Shop.org survey last week showed that almost 72 million Americans would do at least some online shopping while at work in the 2012 holiday season.
