James J. Bakke, president and CEO of Sub-Zero, Inc. and Wolf Appliance, Inc., was recently inducted into the Kitchen & Bath Industry Hall of Fame, which honors individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the industry.
Bakke is the third-generation in Bakke-family leadership of the refrigeration innovator, Sub-Zero, which was founded in 1945. Spending ten years in various positions in the business, he was named President in 1990 and CEO in 1992. He was instrumental in introducing the new built-in refrigeration line, the integrated 700 Series, and the new line of beautiful and functional wine storage. With the acquisition of Wolf Gourmet in 2000, Bakke brought the Wolf cooking line into the corporate family, expanding the line of ranges, cooktops, and ovens, while raising recognition to equal Sub-Zero. He was recently honored by Builder magazine for his 30 years of innovation in the industry.
In addition to Bakke, Kenneth E. Anderson, CKD, and Mary Jo Peterson, CKD, CBD, CAPS, CAASH were also inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Inductees are selected by a standing program committee from nominations made since the Hall of Fame's establishment in 1989. Including the 2009 inductees, the NKBA has selected 81 individuals, who receive national recognition. They will also be honored at the annual NKBA Board of Directors’ Gala at K/BIS 2009 in Atlanta.
