World crude steel production for the 62 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 124 million tonnes (Mt) in August 2012, down 1.0% from August 2011.
August 2012 crude steel production, according to Worldsteel:
* China: 58.7 Mt, down 1.7% from August 2011
* Japan: 9.2 Mt, up 3.3% from August 2011
* South Korea: 5.7 Mt, up 2.8%
* Germany: 3.4 Mt, down 7.1%
* Italy: 1.2 Mt, down 15.5%
* Spain: 1.0 Mt of crude steel, down 10.3%
* France: 1.0 Mt, down 7.2%
* Turkey: 3.0 Mt, up 8.7%
* Russia: 5.8 Mt, up 1.8%
* Ukraine: 2.7 Mt, down 13.5%
* United States: 7.5 Mt, up 1.2%
* Brazil: 2.8 Mt, down 6.2%
The crude steel capacity utilization ratio for the 62 countries in August 2012 declined from 79.4% in July 2012 to 75.5% in August 2012. The ratio is down 3.2% from August 2011.
