Electroindustry Business Confidence Improvement Expected Sep 7, 2012

The August 2012 Electroindustry Business Confidence Index (EBCI) reveals a "soft patch" for the North American electroindustry, according to industry association NEMA.

The Current North American Conditions measure was down in August, to 35.7, from 38.6 in July. It was the second consecutive month the index was below 50, which indicates an equal number of panelists see conditions improving as deteriorating.

In August 2012:
* 19% of panelists reported a better business climate compared to July 2012
* 48% reported worse conditions than July 2012

One-third of panelists said conditions were unchanged.

The EBCI for future conditions in North American were also down, but NEMA said panelists were still, on balance, optimistic. The index was 54.8 in August, from July's 61.4. NEMA reported 38% expect conditions to improve, 29% expect them to worsen.
