Semiconductor Sales Up in July Sep 7, 2012

Worldwide sales of semiconductors were $24.40 billion in July 2012, up 0.2% from June 2012's $24.34 billion, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).

July 2012 sales were down 1.9% from July 2011's $24.86 billion, but the association noted that the decrease was the smallest since October 2011. The SIA monthly sales are a three-month moving average.

"July's sales figures offer some encouraging signs for the global semiconductor industry, but it's clear that macroeconomic challenges are restricting stronger growth," said SIA President and CEO Brian Toohey. "Meanwhile, the regional outlook remains uneven. Japan has rebounded strongly from last year's natural disaster and Asia Pacific has held steady, but Europe and the Americas have lagged."

July 2012 semiconductor sales in July 2012, compared to July 2011:
* Japan sales were up 4.2%
* Asia Pacific sales were up 1.4%
* Europe sales were down 10.0%
* Americas sales were down 10.4%

July 2012 semiconductor sales compared to June 2012:
* Japan sales were up 5.4%
* Asia Pacific sales were up 0.3%
* Europe were flat
* Americas sales were down -3.9%
