Rinnai Recalls Dishwashers in Japan Aug 31, 2012

The Japan Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced a recall of some built-in dishwashers produced by Rinnai Corp of Nagoya, Japan.

The ministry indicated the recall was a result of serious product accidents on Jan. 6, 2012, and Feb. 28, 2012, that resulted in extensive damage.

METI said that, while the specific cause was not yet identified, it is thought that interior water leaks ignites fires in the appliances.

Rinnai will offer buyers in Japan a free inspection and repair of the affected dishwasher models.

A total of 343,376 affected dishwashers are a part of the recall. Affected models include numerous dishwasher models sold under the Rinnai brand name, as well two Clean Up brand models and two Takara Standard brand models. All the affected appliances were manufactured between December 2004 and October 2007.
