Thermador/BSH Sued by Julia Child Foundation Aug 31, 2012

BSH Home Appliances Corp. and its high-end U.S. appliance brand Thermador are being sued by the Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts, according to an AP report.

The Foundation accused BSH of unauthorized use of the name and image of Julia Child. BSH claimed its use of the name and image is based on the fact that Julia Child did, indeed, use a Thermador oven.

In 2001, Ms. Child donated the entire kitchen from her home in Cambridge, MA - including the kitchen's Thermador oven - to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. Ms. Child died in 2004. To celebrate the 100th birthday of Ms. Child, the museum has placed the kitchen back on display again from Aug. 15, 2012, through Sept. 3, 2012.
