Panasonic Expands Smart Home Appliance Line, Adds Cloud Service Aug 27, 2012

Panasonic Corp. (Osaka, Japan) will expand its lineup of smart home appliances and launch a cloud-based service in Japan dedicated to its home appliances.

Panasonic's smart home appliances now include white goods major appliances, including air-conditioners and refrigerators, smaller kitchen appliances, and healthcare devices.

The Panasonic Smart App application will be available in late September. It will allow Android smartphone users of compatible Panasonic home appliances to remotely operate their appliances, program settings, and see the energy savings of each appliance. Customer support such as checking device malfunctions will also be available.

Panasonic has already been providing the cloud services for owners of the latest models of its 3-Star Bistro steam microwave oven and induction heating (IH) steam rice cooker, which were launched in June 2012, enabling them to search for recipes and program cooking instructions using Android smartphones.

The new smart appliances, to be launched September 25 in Japan, will include X Series room air-conditioners, a top-mount refrigerator (NR-F557XV), and drum-type washer-dryers (NA-VX8200/NA-VT8200). Healthcare products will also be launched, including the EW-FA43 body composition monitor, the EW-NK63 calorie meter, and EW-BW53 blood pressure monitor.

The new air-conditioners can also be operated using Apple iPhones.
