GE Recalls 1.3 Million Dishwashers Due to Fire Hazard Aug 17, 2012

GE Appliances is recalling about 1.3 million dishwashers in the United States to address a fire hazard that may result from an electrical failure in a heating element.

GE Appliances is issuing the recall in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The dishwashers were sold under GE, GE Adora, GE Eterna, GE Profile, and Hotpoint brand names.

The CPSC announcement said GE received 15 reports of dishwasher heating element failures, including seven reports of fires, three of which caused extensive property damage. No injuries have been reported.

The dishwashers were sold in black, white, bisque, stainless steel, and CleanSteel exterior colors and finishes.
