Report: Electroindustry Business Conditions Down July, But Industry Expects Improvement in Second Half Aug 10, 2012

The economic slowdown factors affecting the overall economy appear to be affecting the electrical manufacturing sector as well, according to NEMA's Electroindustry Business Confidence Index (EBCI). NEMA said the industry was pulling back from its earlier rebound, but it expects the industry to begin improving again in the second half of 2012.

The EBCI for current North American conditions was at 38.6 in July 2012, from 52.4 in June. The index has been decreasing since its peak of 72.5 in February 2012. The July 2012 reading was the first time the EBCI was below 50 since August 2011. A below-50 level indicates an equal number of panelists see conditions improving as see them deteriorating.

The EBCI for future North American conditions remained solidly positive, NEMA said--and it even climbed in July to 61.4, from 57.1 in June.
