LED Bulb Cost Will Drop by Half to $11 in 2020 Jul 10, 2012

LED light bulbs for home and building illumination have been seen as unfeasible by many users for their high purchase cost compared to the dirt-cheap price-tag of incandescent bulbs. LED bulbs, however, are poised to take a dramatic drive in purchase cost in the coming years, according to industry research firms Lux Research.

In fact, Lux predicts the cost of an LED bulb will be cut in half by 2020 as the focus by developers shifts from the package to the surrounding balance of system. That new focus should result in innovations in thermal management, drivers, and optics, which will all contribute to lower the end-cost of the bulbs.
