TTI Closes Vacuum Bag Plant in Ohio Jun 15, 2012

TTI Floor Care, the North American business unit of Hong Kong-based Techtronic Industries Co., announced that it will close the Hoover vacuum bag factory in Canton, OH. News reports say that about 17 employees will be affected by the closing. Manufacturing of the vacuum bags will move to China. The plant also did some assembly of commercial upright vacuums.

The plant has seen its relevance fade as consumers have gravitated to bagless vacuum cleaners.

Hoover once did much of its floor care appliance manufacturing in Ohio. The brand was owned by Maytag Corp. until Whirlpool acquired Maytag in 2006. Whirlpool made it clear that it had no intention of holding on to Hoover, and sold the business to TTI in December of that year. Nearly all Hoover appliance production in Ohio was closed down in 2007.

Once the bag plant closes, TTI's will still have a distribution operation in the area, with about 125 employees. TTI Floor Care North America is based in the Cleveland, OH area.

In addition to Hoover, TTI also owns global floor care appliance brands such as Royal, Dirt Devil, and Vax.
