AHR Expo Improvements Discussed in Joint Meeting; Chicago Labor Reforms Announced May 25, 2012

Representatives from AHRI, ASHRAE, and the International Exposition Company met to discuss improvements to upcoming industry trade shows. The three entities are the primary sponsors of the International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition (AHR) and AHR Expo Mexico.

The meeting was called to discuss potential improvements to the show, methods for attracting more visitors, and ways to enhance the show experience for attendees.

Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) reported on some of the potential changes that were contemplated. These include:
* staging an event for members of associations related to the primary HVAC/R industry to attract them to the expos
* taking steps to better engage local ASHRAE chapters, including chapters in Central America and in Mexico
* communicating with related associations (for example, the Building Operating and Management Association and the American Institute of Architects) about the expo benefits for their members

It was also reported that labor reforms have been made in Chicago, which is the setting for the AHR expo every three years. The reforms will allow exhibitors to perform their own booth set-up, reduces the mandatory labor crew size from three to two workers, and reduces rates for labor.
