Remodeling Report: Kitchens and Bathrooms Are Top Jobs May 11, 2012

Kitchen and bathroom projects remain the most popular remodeling jobs, with homeowners increasingly remodeling both rooms and making major repairs based on their intentions to stay in their current homes longer, according to a new survey from the National Association of Home Builders.

The survey shows common remodeling projects have increased from 2010, and almost 50% of remodelers have seen an increase in home owners undertake remodels as an alternative to moving compared to the 2010 findings.

Kitchen and bathroom remodeling projects were both up 17% from 2010.
* 78% of remodelers cited bathroom remodels as a common job
* 69% of remodelers cited kitchen remodels a a common job

Bathroom remodels are now the most common remodel type - a switch from 2009, when kitchens were the most common.

"As the priorities of home owners shift, remodelers have to adjust to the needs of their clients," said NAHB Remodelers Chairman George "Geep" Moore Jr., GMB, CAPS, GMR and owner/president of Moore-Built Construction & Restoration Inc. in Elm Grove, LA.
