Vitamix Breaks Ground on $10 Million Expansion May 4, 2012

Blender producer Vita-Mix Corp. broke ground on a $10 million, 51,000-square-foot expansion of its world headquarters in suburban Cleveland, OH.

The blending equipment is sold in the United States and in 80 countries. The company reports that sales doubles in the last three years and exports are up 80%. The company workforce has grown 45%. The company currently employs about 500 people and plans to hire at 100 more during 2012.

The first phase of the expansion will be a 15,000-square-foot, $2 million expansion of the company's Engineering Department. The second phase will be an $8 million, three-story, 36,000-square-foot addition to increase the company's office, conference and meeting space by more than 20%.

"This expansion will enable us to keep innovating and changing the way professional chefs and home cooks around the world think about food and beverage preparation," said Jodi L. Berg, Vita-Mix president and CEO.

The current expansion comes after a $6 million, 40,000-square-foot expansion completed in 2010, which added 33,000 square feet to the company warehouse. That warehouse expansion recently received LEED Silver certification. Vitamix is incorporating green building practices into the current expansion as well.
