The NPE2012 plastics exposition substantially exceeded NPE2009 in size and was the most international NPE ever - attracting more participants from outside the United States than any previous NPE.
The NPE plastics exposition, produced every three years by SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association, took place April 1-5, 2012, in Orlando.
The venue was a shift for the trade show, which for four decades has been staged in Chicago. The 2012 event 1,933 exhibitors, more than in each of the three previous NPEs. The total exhibit space was 939,972 sq ft (87,326 sq m), 23% more than in 2009. Attendance was up 26% to 55,359. Visitors came from 19,283 unique companies, compared to 18,600 in 2009.
Of total attendance in 2012, 26% came from outside the United States, a large increase compared with any previous NPE. One-third of the international visitors came from Latin America.
There were also more exhibiting companies from outside the United States than in any previous NPE. Approximately 750 exhibitors, or 40% of the total, were from outside the United States. China sent the most international exhibitors to NPE2012 with more than 300, or 16% of all exhibitors. Another 8% came from the rest of Asia and the Mideast, and 10% came from Europe. Canada sent 72 exhibitors--the second-largest country total after China. The 28 exhibitors from Mexico and South America represented the largest contingent ever from Latin America.
The next NPE will also take place at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. The even is scheduled for March 22-26, 2015. SPI said NPE2015 will conclude ten days prior to Easter and will not overlap the traditional Spring Break period.
