Electrolux's AEG brand and Electrolux brand have both won red dot design awards.

Among the winning products was the AEG-brand MaxiSense Hob (cooktop) for the European market. Pans of any shape can be placed on nearly any spot on the induction cooking surface. The size of a cooking zone is automatically adjusted to match the cookware dimensions. The integrated Direct Control element offers maximum control when cooking.

Another winning product was the Electrolux Lampshade Island hood (pictured). The hood is designed like a hanging lamp. The design came from consumer studies that showed that hood lamps were often the most important point of illuminating in European kitchens.

AEG Gas on Glass hobs received Honorable Mentions from red dot. The cooktops combine efficient gas burners, LED lighting, and an elegant design.

AEG ProFresh Built-in fridge-freezers and built-in fridges were also named Honorable Mentions. These cold appliances were noted for their high energy efficiency ratings and functions such as Frostmatic (a rapid-freezing function), Coolmatic (a rapid-cooling function in the refrigerator compartment), and NoFrost (ice-free freezer technology).

The 2012 red dot design awards will be officially presented at an event on July 2, 2012.

The awards are organized by the Design Centre NRW in Essen, Germany. Products are judged based on degree of innovation, functionality, quality and ecological compatibility.
