CEA Report Shows Consumers are Confident About Technology Spending, More Optimistic About Economy Mar 29, 2012

Consumer confidence in technology improved in March 2012, reaching its highest point so far in the year, according to the latest Index released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). CEA's measure of consumer confidence in the overall economy dropped slightly.

Consumer confidence in technology in March 2012: 88.9, its highest point since setting an all-time high of 93.6 in December 2011. The Index of Consumer Technology Expectations (ICTE), which measures consumer expectations about technology spending, is up more than three points from February 2012 and is up more than 10 points from March 2011.

Consumer confidence in the overall economy was down slightly in March. The Index of Consumer Expectations (ICE) fell one point to 173.6; however the ICE is up more than 12 points from this time last year.

"Overall consumer sentiment about the economy remains high and consumers are feeling more optimistic than they did throughout 2011," said DuBravac. He said higher gas prices probably caused the slight dip in consumer confidence in the overall economy in March, while several new electronics launches, including the new iPad, probably helped drive an increase in tech spending sentiment.
