Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet introduced 12 redesigned Hybrid Fire Grills at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show last week, designed to combine gas grill convenience with the heat characteristics of a charcoal grill and the flavor of a wood grill or smoker. The grills allow outdoor cooks to use the different fires separately or in combination achieve outdoor cooking techniques like grilling, smoking, searing, roasting, and rotisserie cooking on one grill.

The grills use newly developed H-shaped brass Dragon Burners, designed to deliver more linear control zones, with each 25,000 BTU burner tailoring the heat to a specific section of the cooking area. Gas cooking temperatures range from 250oF to over 700oF. Using charcoal or wood, temperatures extend from 150oF to 1,200oF.

The grills have a dedicated ignition burner to fire the main burners - a "pilot light" said to help make it an extremely reliable ignition system. The special-purpose burner is paired with electronic hot surface ignition and an engineered "flash tube" to ensure quick starts, even in windy conditions. The ignition burner can also be used alone for low-temperature smoking and barbecuing.

Hybrid Fire Grilling Drawers enable changing fuels. The drawers are left empty to use the grill as a gas grill. Wood or charcoal are added, and fired using the main burner, to cook with solid fuel.

The grills range in size from 506 square inches of cooking surface to 1452 square inches, with two to six burners. Retail prices will range from $9,995 to $26,195.
