U.S. manufacturing technology orders showed a strong uptick in January 2012 compared to January 2011 -good news in light of lower forecasts, according to AMT, the association issuing the report.

January 2012 U.S. manufacturing technology orders totaled, released on March 12, were $401.69 million according to AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology. The United States Manufacturing Technology Orders (USMTO) report showed January 2012 orders were down 26.5% from December 2011 but up 8.4% from $370.46 million in January 2011.

"I think the continued growth highlights manufacturers' increasing confidence in future growth and that their bottom lines are being channeled into investments in advanced manufacturing technologies," said AMT President Douglas K. Woods.

The report is intended to provide a leading economic indicator by monitoring manufacturing industries' investment in capital metalworking equipment.
