Total domestic raw steel production in the United States in the week ending March 3, 2012, was 1,947,000 net tons, according to AISI. The capability utilization rate was 78.8%. Production was up 8% from a year earlier. In the week ending March 3, 2011, production was 1,803,000 tons and the capability utilization then was 75.2%. Adjusted year-to-date production through March 3, 2012 was 17,238,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 77.5%. That is a 7.2% increase from the 16,087,000 tons during in 2012, when the capability utilization rate was 74.2%.
