Gorenje Closes Asko Factory in Finland Mar 7, 2012

Slovenian-based appliance maker Gorenje will close its cooking appliances plant in Lahti, Finland and absorb the production at its existing plant in Mora Moravia in the Czech Republic.

The Lahti plant came to Gorenje when it acquired Sweden's Asko Appliances Group from Antonio Merloni S.p.A. in mid-2010. The Finnish plant is expected to be shuttered by July 2012, with production starting in Mora Moravia by September. The plant produced 53,000 cooking appliances in 2011. The closure will affect 106 employees.

Gorenje Group recently embarked on a new Strategic Plan for 2012-2015 intended to create better efficiencies, cut cost, and sharpen the focus of Group operations.
