Global Semiconductor Sales Down 2.7% in January Mar 6, 2012

Worldwide semiconductor sales were $23.1 billion in January 2012, down 2.7% from December 2011's sales of $23.8 billion, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).

"The month over month revenue decline for January is in line with seasonal patterns," said SIA President Brian Toohey. "A weakened global economy amidst inflation concerns and the European debt crisis continued to affect sales at the start of the year, but there are strong signs pointing to recovery and growth as 2012 progresses."

SIA expects 2012 semiconductor sales to improve with:
* positive demand drivers
* improving U.S. economy
* resolution of the flooding impacts Thailand
