The Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute, in comments to the U.S. FTC and DOE, said that new objectives for home heating and cooling appliances could be met through revisions to existing EnergyGuide labels, and said no added reporting requirements should be imposed on HVAC producers.
AHRI also recommended that the AHRI Directory of Certified Product Performance be allowed to serve as one of the approved methods for disclosing information required to meet new regional standards for home furnaces, central air-conditioners, and heat pumps.
The comments were submitted after the Department of Energy's direct final rule establishing was published on regional minimum energy standards for these residential HVAC products. The Federal Trade Commission, in November 2011, published an advance notice of proposed rulemaking, seeking input from stakeholders.
