Outdoor power equipment maker The Toro Company was at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2012 exhibiting products designed to "bring brains to your backyard" in the form or lawn watering control.

The Xtra Smart Precision Series products' system of sensors, controllers, and wireless technology were demonstrated at CES, showing how such a system can cut a homeowner's water bill. Included in the system:
* A Precision Soil Moisture Sensor wirelessly detects how much water is in the home's lawn to help keep the sprinkler system from over-watering or under-watering.
* H2Flo Nozzles and Sprinklers are designed to deliver larger, more uniform water droplets to the lawn and prevent wasteful water distribution such as misting and fogging. The company's proprietary H2O Chip Technology creates fans of water at 200 cycles per second but is designed to do so at a third less pressure than traditional sprinklers.
* The EC*Xtra Landscape Timer and Wireless Weather Sensor lets homeowners create a watering schedule using Scheduling Advisor software while wireless sensors monitors weather - including rainfall, sun exposure, and air temperature - to determine the best watering time.
