Chinese appliance maker Haier plans to invest 600 million Thai baht, or about $19 million U.S., to expand manufacturing capacity at its appliance plant in Thailand, according to articles in the Bangkok Post and other media outlets. About $4.5 million would be spend to expand washing machine production and about $2 million would go for expanding refrigerator production. Media sources say washing machine production could double to 400,000 appliances annually. Refrigerator productions could get as high as 1 million units per year.
About $9.5 million would go into product development and about $3 million would go into marketing.
Media sources say the company promoted refrigerator sales in Thailand in 2011 and will focus more marketing efforts on top-load washing machines in 2012.
The plant is in the Prachinburi Province in the Kabin Buri District of Thailand.
