Report: Consumer Confidence in Technology and Economy Jump in December Jan 3, 2012

Consumer confidence in technology reached its highest point of 2011 in the month of December, which also showed an increase in consumer confidence in the economy, according to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).

CEA's Index of Consumer Technology Expectations (ICTE) reached 93.6, its highest level of 2011 and the second highest level ever. The index nearly reached the peak of 93.7 in December 2010.

CEA's Index of Consumer Expectations (ICE), intended to measure confidence in the economy, had hit an all-time low in November 2011. However, the index increased 14 points to 170.7 in December 2011. The big jump means the Index is now at its highest point since February 2011, but is 4 points below December 2010.

“The holiday season closed out on a strong note with consumers feeling more optimistic about the overall economy than they have in months,” said Shawn DuBravac, CEA’s chief economist and director of research. “While the economic landscape will remain rocky for 2012, December’s numbers show signs of hope as we head into the New Year.”
