Electrolux is "very close" to deciding on the general contractor for its new plant in Memphis, TN, according to a Dec. 23, 2011 report in the Memphis Commercial Appeal. Article author Daniel Connolly quoted the finance manager for architectural engineering firm Allen & Hoshall, which is handling the spending of public money on the project.
The news indicates Electrolux will continue with the construction of the cooking appliance plant. Doubts about the future of the plant were raised when Electrolux said in November that it intends to reduce its manufacturing base in North America and Europe following.
The general contractor will handle the construction of a building that combines production, offices, and warehousing. Combining functions in a single building is intended to cut the costs of the facility, which had originally had separate buildings for each function.
State of Tennessee and local government incentives are expected to contribute about $137 million of the total estimated $190 million price tag for the new facility. Other benefits could raise the incentives total to $188 million.
