October U.S. Steel Shipments Up 9.4% Year to Date

U.S. steel mills shipped 7,933,653 net tons in October 2011, a 0.2% decrease from the 7,947,262 net tons shipped in September 2011, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). October 2011 was up 19.7% from 6,629,195 net tons shipped in October 2010. Shipments year-to-date in 2011 were 76,374,860, up 9.4% from 69,783,780 in the first 10 months of 2010. AISI said 2011 shipments through October would annualize at 92 million tons.

Month-to-month comparison of shipments shows:
• cold rolled sheet up 3%
• hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip up 1%
• hot rolled sheet down 6%
