Consumers are shopping for electronics items at a "frantic pace" this year and may give the consumer electronics category its best-ever holiday season, according to data from price comparison web site SortPrice.com.

"Not only do you have consumers actively seeking out electronics, it would also appear that many shoppers who are on the fence about what to buy are turning to the category to fill their shopping lists this year as well," said SortPrice co-founder and CEO Doron Simovitch.

Electronics make up half of the items on the web site's annual list of the top ten most sought-after holiday gifts. The web site compiles the list each year by collecting and analyzing site traffic and user searches starting on Black Friday. The 2011 top ten list, below, is based on about 42,000 user searches on SortPrice.com from Black Friday and Sunday, Dec. 11:

• Tory Burch handbags
