Forecast: Canadian AC Shipments Up, Furnaces Down in 2012

Canadian residential air-conditioning, commercial air-conditioning, and furnace shipments will change only modestly in 2012, according to forecasts from the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI).

Commercial air-conditioning:
• 2010 actual shipments were: 38,778 units
• 2011 projected year-end shipments: up 1% to 39,113 units
• 2012 forecast shipments: up 2% to 39,954 units

residential air-conditioning:
• 2010 actual shipments were: 192,950 units
• 2011 projected year-end shipments: up 14% to 223,471 units
• 2012 forecast shipments: up 2% to 218,367 units

Residential furnaces:
• 2010 actual shipments were: 315,331 units
• 2011 projected year-end shipments: down 10% to 286,837 units
• 2012 forecast shipments: up 1% to 289,796 units

Source is HRAI for all the above shipments. HRAI definitions:
• "Residential air-conditioning:" split system air-conditioning and heat pumps up to 5 tons
• "Commercial air-conditioning:” rooftops (combination heat/cool), packaged cooling, and packaged heat pumps
• "Furnace:” residential forced air furnaces of all types (gas, oil, electric, and combination)
