September U.S. manufacturing technology orders reached the second-highest monthly dollar total in 15 years, according to association AMTDA and AMT. September's total of $606.56 million was up 22.9% from August 2011 and up 51.9% from $399.32 million in September 2010. The numbers were compiled by AMTDA, the American Machine Tool Distributors’ Association and AMT - The Association for Manufacturing Technology. The total so far for 2011 is $4,074.00 million, up 91.9% from the same period in 2010.
"American manufacturers are still rushing to beat the end-of-year bonus depreciation deadline!" said Peter Borden, AMTDA president. The United States Manufacturing Technology Orders (USMTO) report is designed to be a leading economic indicator of manufacturing industries investment in capital metalworking equipment to increase capacity and improve productivity.
