Groupe SEB's T-fal brand is promoting its new ActiFry in the United States as an alternative to traditional deep fryers.

The appliance is designed to use as little as a single tablespoon of oil, or no oil at all, in some recipes. A "pulse heat system" helps cook food using circulated hot air, cooking food at 338°F. Food revolves inside the cooking vessel while an integrated paddle automatically turns and mixes ingredients to provide for even cooking. The appliances can cook to 2.2 pounds food using a single tablespoon of oil. Groupe SEB's testing shows the appliance can cook a 3.52 oz serving of french fries with 192 calories and 3 grams of fat compared to a 298 calories and 15.8 grams of fat in frozen fast food fries.
