World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 124 million metric tons (mmt) in September 2011. This is 9.7% higher than September 2010.
Crude steel production in the first nine months of 2011, by region:
• Asia: 728.3 mmt, up 9.5% from the first nine months of 2010
• EU: 135.7 mmt, up 4.3%
• North America: 89.3 mmt, up 6.1%
Crude steel production in September 2011:
• China: 56.7 mmt, up 16.5% from September 2010
• Japan: 8.9 mmt, down 3.8%
• South Korea: 5.5 mmt, up 17.7%
• Germany: 3.7 mmt, up 10.3%
• Italy: 2.6 mmt, up 11.5%
• France: 1.3 mmt, up 4.2%
• Turkey: 3.0 mmt, up 16.9%
• United States: 7.2 mmt, up 8.9%
• Brazil: 2.8 mmt, up 3.8%
The world crude steel capacity utilization ratio of the 64 countries in September 2011 rebounded slightly to 79.1%, 1.8 percentage points higher than in August 2011. Compared to September 2010, the utilization ratio in September 2011 increased by 3.5 percentage points.
